Airport Overview
Hamad International Airport (DOH) is one of the world's finest aviation facilities and the primary hub for Qatar Airways, consistently ranked among the world's top airlines. Opened in 2014 and named after former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the airport is located approximately 4 km from central Doha and handles around 45β50 million passengers annually. It features a distinctive glass-and-steel terminal designed to evoke the desert landscape of Qatar, with a massive indoor tropical rainforest garden as a centerpiece of the transit experience.
DOH has been repeatedly voted among the world's best airports, particularly for its exceptional lounges, world-class retail (featuring works by KAWS, Damien Hirst, and other renowned artists), and Qatar Airways' outstanding service standards. The airport also served as a key hub for FIFA World Cup 2022 operations, further raising its international profile.
Terminals
Hamad International Airport operates as a single integrated terminal complex divided into landside and airside zones. The main terminal building contains check-in, immigration, arrivals, and airside gates across multiple concourses (A through E). The building is unified rather than split into separate named terminals, though different concourses serve different airlines and route types.
A major terminal expansion (South Node) was completed in 2023, adding new gates, a second security area, expanded lounges, and additional retail and dining. This expansion increased the airport's capacity to over 58 million passengers per year.
WiFi Availability
Free WiFi is available throughout the terminal, including landside and airside zones, via the "HIA Free WiFi" network. Registration requires an email address or phone number. Speeds are excellent β the airport's infrastructure supports fast connections suitable for video streaming. Qatar Airways business and first class passengers have access to dedicated high-speed WiFi in lounges. SIM cards from Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar are available in the arrivals area for travelers planning to stay in Qatar.
